It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's Tom Cruise in a helicopter.

The actor landed in Trafalgar Square in the heart of London to shoot scenes for his new movie, "All You Need Is Kill," and locals may have been excused for thinking their square had been given over to military rule. Or at least to Hollywood. And that didn't play well for residents, who were relegated to a supporting role behind the barricades. Traffic came to a halt for three hours as Cruise shot scenes for a movie. The production closed down a three-square mile radius of some of the most visited tourist sites in the historic city.
Sunday morning the popular tourist destination was closed off from locals and filled with tanks, military vehicles, actors, and yes, a Royal Air Force helicopter.
Looking crisp in an Army-drab uniform, cap, and aviators, the 50-year-old star was joined by a cast of extras wearing ponchos and helmets over camouflage gear and battling, if not space invaders, then the wet London weather as cameras rolled.

The sci-fi thriller centers on Cruise as Bill Cage, an Army officer in the future during an all-out attack on the Earth by alien forces.  Cage is killed in a fight with an extraterrestrial being, but wakes up at the start of that day, and he relives his last battle over and over again.  Directed by Doug Liman ("The Bourne Identity"), the movie also stars Emily Blunt and Bill Paxton.
The busy A-lister, who has been spotted around town in the past few months at work on the film, took a brief break to spend time with his daughter, Suri, who flew to London for Thanksgiving. Cruise and ex-wife Katie Holmes split earlier this year.
And Trafalgar Square and Cruise can be seen when the movie opens on March 7, 2014.
