Gunmen kill 4 policemen in Kano


Gunmen killed four policemen in two separate attacks in Kano on Monday and yesterday, although residents put the casualty figure at five. The incidents occurred five days to the anniversary of the January 20 multiple attacks in the city by members of the Boko Haram sect. Daily Sun gathered that the first attack occurred on Monday around Kawo-Tishama area of the state capital. The gunmen were said to have attacked their target on tricycles and shot them at close range.

The state police command said some of the suspects, who escaped with gunshot wounds, would be arrested. Incidentally, while Monday’s attack was being analyzed, a second attack occurred at Yan ‘Awaki area by Zaria Road yesterday, leading to the death of two policemen. The command’s spokesman, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Magaji Majiya told Daily Sun on phone that at about 8.30am yesterday, gunmen on motorbike ambushed a police patrol vehicle in the area and shot at them. e said the incident happened around Yan Awaki by Zaria Road. He also said two police officers were killed in the ambush while a third officer who was injured, was recuperating in an unnamed hospital. He said Joint Security Task Force (JSTF) had cordoned off the area, adding that police had commenced investigations.
