Kelsey Grammer joins The Expendables 3 cast

The 'Frasier' star is set to play Bonaparte, a former mercenary who assists Sylvester Stallone's band of misfit hardmen.

It was reportedly the part that was originally planned for Nicolas Cage, before he turned down the offer earlier this year.

It's the second recent 'action' role for Grammer, after he wrapped playing the villain character Harold Attinger, a counter intelligence agent, in the forthcoming 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' with Michael Bay.

Filming has begun for the sequel in Bulgaria, with a recent report from star Terry Crews suggesting it's already been eventful.

Crews revealed that he and co-star Jason Statham were involved in a 'near-death' experience when a truck the pair were in careered into the Black Sea.

The movie is set for release on August 15, 2014, featuring an all-star cast.

Joining Grammer on the bill are Stallone, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
At one point Bruce Willis was also set to return to the series, but he was reportedly axed by Stallone when he demanded a million dollars a day.
