Police officer killed as gunmen kidnap 2 expatriates in Ondo

Four gunmen on Thursday night kidnapped two foreigners working with Charvet Construction Company in Akungba-Akoko area of Ondo State. The expatriates, who are from Syria, were in charge of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko Senate Building Project.  They were abducted at the construction site.

Besides, the bandits, in an attempt to escape from the scene, shot four persons including a police officer, identified as Olajide whose remain has been deposited at Ikare General Hospital.

The assailants, who rode in a mercedes benz car, accosted and hijacked the expatriates’ white colour Nissan Xterra Jeep with registration No. KTU 705 AL, shot the driver in the leg and whisked away the expatriates to an unknown destination.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Wole Ogodo, who confirmed the incident, the police has been able to recover the Nissan Jeep which the kidnappers escaped with.

He narrated that the kidnappers stormed the university premises and started shooting sporadically into the air.

Ogodo disclosed that four persons were injured in the process, while a police officer, Olajide, attached to Ikare Division 1 of the state police command, was shot dead.
