No fewer than five persons were
reportedly killed by soldiers attached to
the Special Task Force at the annual
hunting festival of Bassa people in Bassa
Local Government Area of Jos, Plateau
State on Sunday. Some youths, who were on a hunting
expedition, were said to have engaged in
a fight that threatened the continuation
of the festival. Some of the elders of the community
were said to have invited policemen at a
nearby station who arrested two of the
warring youths. Incensed by the arrests, their colleagues
were said to have stormed the police
station and released them and followed
up by burning the police station and a
magistrate’s court adjacent to the police
