Police arrest man for alledgely raping minor in Adamawa


 The Police in Adamawa have arrested a 62-year-old man, Godwin Sanda, for allegedly raping a minor at Zagun village in Numan Local Goverment Area of the state.

This is contained in a statement by the Spokesman of the Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, on Sunday in Yola.

He said the 14-year-old victim (names withheld), a mentally retarded child was brought under the suspect’s custody for herbal treatment.

“The suspect is a herbalist and used the opportunity to abused the child,” he said.

Nguroje said the victim’s mother, Maryam Abubakar reported the case to the Divisional Police office in Numan.

“The suspect advised the mother to go back home pending when the victim will recover.

“Sanda took advantage of the complainant absence for a period of five days and had unlawful canal knowledge of the victim, which led to her escaped from his premises back to her parent’s house.

“The suspect is presently undergoing investigation by detectives from State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) based on the instruction of the Commissioner of Police,” he said.

While reitrating commitment of the command to fight crimes, Nguroje advised parents to monitor their wards and be wary of questionable characters in their neighborhoods. (NAN)
